Steven Mitchell Wilson

Steven Mitchell “Steve” Wilson, age 60, of La Plata, Maryland, passed away at Charles County Hospice House in Waldorf, Maryland on August 11, 2023. Steve was the son of Lester Leroy “Les” Wilson, Sr. and Virginia Mae (Abell) “Ginny” Wilson, of La Plata, Maryland. In addition to his parents, Steve was survived by his brothers, Lester L. “Chuck” Wilson, Jr. and his girlfriend Barbara, Scott M. Wilson and his wife Jodi, and Brandon L. Wilson and his wife Dee; nieces, Jacqlyn Wilson and Ainsley Wilson; nephews, Brady Wilson, Dayne Wilson, and Brent Finagin; and a host of other relatives and friends. Steve was born on December 10, 1962 in Washington, D.C. and raised in Marbury, Maryland. He attended services at Grace Lutheran Church in La Plata, Maryland. Steve was a graduate of Lackey High School in Indian Head, Maryland and the University of Maryland at College Park, where he majored in Civil Engineering. At the time of his passing, Steve was a General Engineer and the Weather Forecast Office Relocation Program Manager for NOAA’s National Weather Service, Office of Facilities, Facilities Management Division. Among his many professional accomplishments, Steve was most recently involved in the completion of the NOAA National Weather Service Office in Charleston, West Virginia and worked on facilities in Boston, Massachusetts and Hawaii. He served nineteen (19) years in the federal service, his last seven (7) with NOAA’s National Weather Service. Steve enjoyed golfing and was an avid motorcycle enthusiast, traveling to many states up and down the East Coast to participate in sport bike racing events. He loved his tractors and other “toys,” occasionally putting them to use to help others with small projects, landscaping needs, or snow removal. Funeral services for Steve were private. Interment took place at Mt. Rest Cemetery in La Plata, Maryland. The Wilson family would like to express their heartfelt appreciation to all the medical staff involved in Steve’s care, Grace Lutheran Church in La Plata, Maryland for their ministry, fellowship and food for the family, and especially Charles County Hospice House in Waldorf, Maryland for their excellent and compassionate care of Steve and his family.
