Ralph Jessie Williams

Ralph Jessie Williams, 91, beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend, departed this world at his La Plata Md home with his family by his side on October 14, 2023. Ralph was born in Guntersville, Alabama on October 9,1932. The family later moved to Griffin, Georgia. When Ralph was 18 years old, he joined the Navy wanting to see the world. It was the Navy that brought him to Indian Head, Md where he was stationed at the Naval Ordnance Station. Two life altering events occurred after he arrived; he met his sweetheart and the love of his life Norma Jean Grinder; and he was involved in an accident aboard a small ship and lost his right leg. Ralph and Norma married and forever made Southern Maryland their home where they raised their family. They were married 70 years. After retiring from the Navy after his accident, Ralph found his niche as a Contract Officer with the government. One of his biggest contracts involved the purchase of Dauphin helicopters from France for the US Coast Guard. Ralph was a Master Mason, member of the Grace Baptist Church in Bryans Road, Maryland and the American Legion in La Plata, Maryland. Ralph’s hobbies were fishing, working in his yard and spending time with his cherished family. Ralph always had a smile on his face and was never at a loss for a joke or two. Ralph is survived by his wife Norma, children, Debbie Krakow (Ed) and David (Tina), grandchildren Christopher, Justin, Kristen and Sara, great grandchildren Andrew, McKenzie, Lily, David, Juliana, Graham and Roman, and his sister, Wanda Folds (Keith) from Griffin, Georgia. Ralph was the son of the late Clare and Jess Williams. He was preceded in death by his two brothers, Frank and Robert and sisters Melba, Nellie, and granddaughter Ashleigh Posey. Ralph, Pop, Pop Peanut, Dad will be missed but never forgotten. A Celebration of Life in Honor of Ralph Jessie Williams will be held on Monday, December 11, 2023 from 5:30PM to 7:30PM at the FOP Lodge #24, Charles County, Maryland, 10285 Rosewick Road, La Plata, Maryland 20646. Memorial contributions can be sent to the Hospice of the Chesapeake or the Grace Baptist Church in Bryans Road, Maryland.
