Marion Schreiber

Marion Irene (Michael) Schreiber, 109, of Bryantown, MD, passed away peacefully at home, in her sleep on March 1st, 2024. She was the daughter of the late Charles and Zourie Cleopatra (Grove) Michael. Marion is preceded in death by her husband Edward Joseph Schreiber of Waldorf, MD. She is survived by her two children Janet Carol Talbert (George H. Talbert III, deceased) and Margie Ann Thompson (Don W. Thompson), five grandchildren – Kimberly (Talbert) Manley, Cheryl (Talbert) Merkle, Cindy (Thompson) Stubenhofer, Michael Thompson, Lori (Thompson) Parlett- and eleven great grandchildren. Marion was born in Berkeley Springs, WV on December 26, 1914. She and her family moved to Washington DC when she was in grade school and lived on Good Hope Rd in Anacostia then in a house her father built in Congress Heights. In 1935 she married her wonderful husband Eddie and lived on Wheeler Rd in Prince George’s County until 1972 when they built a house “in the country” and moved to Waldorf MD, where she loved to entertain family and friends. It was a Sunday evening tradition for family to gather for homemade waffles made on a waffle iron that had been a wedding present. Despite moving from WV when she was young, she maintained close ties with family in WV and loved going back to Berkeley Springs for the annual Grove-Weber Family Reunions and the Apple Butter Festival. Marion was a born organizer, saver and administrator. She put those skills to work as a secretary throughout much of her life, working for the Dept. of Social Services, numerous businesses, Tantallon Country Club and eventually became church secretary for several pastors at multiple churches. Marion loved to serve others and tirelessly shared her time and talents with family and friends. Active in her church, Calvary United Methodist Church Waldorf for nearly 50 yrs, she was Co-founder and President of the Friendship Club; Inaugural recipient of the Nellie Shelor Lifetime Service award; Calvary UMC Bereavement Committee member; Church Council member; and UMW member. In the community she was a Charles County Meals on Wheels volunteer, U of MD Charles Regional Medical Center Auxiliary volunteer; enjoyed participating in numerous church plays including the “Amen Corner” for Smoke on the Mountain. Marion loved spending time with family and friends. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, quilting, sewing and counted cross-stitch. She used her talents to create many beautiful gifts and also made blankets and throws which she donated to the Veteran’s Home. When she was no longer able to crochet and sew, she still enjoyed helping to “stuff” post-operative pillows for U of MD Charles Regional Medical Center and enjoyed doing word-finds and jigsaw puzzles without the aid of glasses. Additionally, she loved all things “Elvis.” She was always “young at heart”. In her late 80’s she would jump rope on her carport and rode bumper cars at Busch Gardens. In her late 90s she enjoyed riding on a jet ski, riding in a convertible sports car with the top down, got on a horse at Cacapon State Park in West Virginia and took a cruise to the Bahamas. Of greatest importance, Marion loved the Lord and had a life-long relationship with Jesus as her Savior. She lived her faith and set an example for all who knew her. We rejoice knowing that whereas she has left her earthly body, her eternal spirit is alive and rejoicing with Jesus. The family will receive friends for Marion’s Celebration of Life on Friday, March 22, from 10am to noon, with a service beginning at noon, at Raymond’s Funeral Home 5635 Washington Ave., La Plata, MD 20646. Interment will follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery Suitland, MD.
