John Benjamin McDaniel Jr John Benjamin McDaniel Jr., a beloved husband, father, grandfather, and proud veteran, passed away peacefully on February 25, 2026, at the age of 97. His family announces his passing with heavy hearts and profound gratitude for a life well lived. John was born on March 24, 1928, in the quaint town of Herndon, Virginia, to the late John and Margaret McDaniel. From an early age, he embodied the values of dedication, integrity, and service that would define his life. After graduating from high school, John answered his nation’s call to serve and began a distinguished 20-year career in the United States Navy. His commitment to his country was unwavering, and he formed lifelong bonds with those who served alongside him. Following his retirement from active duty, John continued his service to the Navy by working at the Washington Navy Yard until his full retirement, bringing the same diligence, integrity, and pride to his work. John married the love of his life, Jeanette, and together they built a wonderful life in Accokeek, Maryland, sharing more than five decades of marriage marked by love, devotion, and partnership. They raised two sons, John and Robert, instilling in them the values of honor, kindness, and perseverance. John was preceded in death by his beloved sister, Leah, and his dear son, Robert. He is survived by his devoted wife, Jeanette; his loving son, John; and two cherished grandchildren, who were the light of his life and brought him immense joy and pride. A celebration of John’s life will be held on April 20, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Raymond Funeral Home, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646. Family, friends, and all whose lives he touched are invited to gather in remembrance and gratitude for the gift of his presence among us. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made in John’s memory to a veteran’s charity of choice, honoring his lifelong commitment to those who served. John Benjamin McDaniel Jr. will be remembered as a man of principle, humility, and unwavering love. His life stands as a testament to the power of dedication, service, and the enduring strength of family. Though he will be deeply missed, his spirit and legacy will live on in the hearts of all who were privileged to know and love him.
