Catherine Ann Compton

Heaven’s spotlight shined on Catherine Ann Compton on Wednesday, February 22, 2023. She went to her eternal home with her savior, Jesus Christ. She will be missed by her loving family. She is survived by her beloved husband of 42 years, Calvin Lamont Compton, Jr. and her children, Keith Compton, Major James Compton, and Margaret StClair. She is reunited with her son Scott Allen, who went to heaven in April 2021. Cathy was born on April 28th, 1951 in Southampton, New York to Valentine and Marion Achtellik. She has fond memories of her childhood and loved to tell stories about singing, playing the piano, baking bread with her grandmother who lived in the small white cottage a stone’s throw from her parent’s front door and swimming in the Cold Spring Bay with her brothers Paul and Greg, and sister Margaret. Cathy’s life is a celebration and demonstration of extravagant love, poured out to anyone that would cross her path. Cathy obtained a bachelor’s degree in education and was fondly remembered for many leading roles throughout her life, most memorable as Sister Robert Ann in Nunsense! She loved her Silver Tones, her Southern Maryland Choral Arts Society, the Port Tobacco Players Theater, her many piano and voice students, choir and music ministries, and her Grace Church family. Calvin and Cathy hosted many loving celebrations for friends and family at their home, for nearly 3 decades. Her friends and family share cherished memories of Cathy singing, “O Holy Night” at midnight Christmas Eve Services at the LaPlata Methodist church for many years. Cathy’s favorite hobbies included cooking, sewing, gardening, and singing at any occasion. Cathy cherished her grandchildren, Peyton and Connor StClair, Margaret Edith Allen, and Josiah Compton. Cathy’s personality sparkled everywhere she went and she leaves her family and community with a warm loving legacy of faith and service to others! Visitations will be held at Grace Church Waldorf on Friday March 3rd from 5:00PM until 8:00PM. The funeral service will be at Grace Church Waldorf on Saturday March 4th at 11:00AM. There will be a burial in Dentsville following the service.
