Amy Kathleen Taitano

Amy Kathleen Taitano, known lovingly to her mother as "Midge," peacefully passed away at home on July 26, 2026, in La Plata, Maryland, on what was her twenty-sixth birthday. Born on July 26, 2000, in La Plata, Amy lived her entire life in the community where she was raised, surrounded by the family she cherished and the son who was her whole world. Amy spent her pre-school years learning many things from her grandmother Dolores. Amy successfully earned a certificate of completion and graduation from “Grammy School” where she mastered drinking coffee and arts and crafts. Amy attended St. Mary’s Star of the Sea School, Dr. James Craik Elementary School, and Maurice J. McDonough High School. After high school graduation, Amy completed the American Red Cross Nursing Assistant Training program and passed the state certification exam to become a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA). Amy worked as a CNA and then became a part-time student at Anne Arundel Community College where she was a couple of classes short of completing her Associates of Arts degree. Amy was the daughter of Mary Kay Tompa and Dennis Taitano, and from a young age she made it clear she was anything but ordinary. Amy was, in her own words, "not basic," and anyone who spent even a few minutes with her understood exactly what she meant. She had a sense of style that was entirely her own, a flair for fashion that turned heads and an artistic eye that found its way into everything she touched. Whether she was making bracelets or necklaces, bedazzling clothes, picture frames, or transforming ordinary containers, Amy turned the everyday into something that sparkled and uniquely hers. She was smart, resilient, and resourceful, with a quiet strength that spoke louder than words ever could. Amy was a trailblazer even as a young girl, becoming the first female altar server at St. Mary's Star of the Sea Church, a distinction that spoke to both her quiet determination and her faith. She was also a natural performer, starring in several home videos produced by her brother Noah during their early years together. The family favorite, "Teleportation Shoes," remains a cherished memory that still brings laughter and smiles. On December 21, 2018, Amy's life changed forever when she gave birth to her son, Aiden James. From that moment on, Aiden became the center of her world. She was a devoted, loving, and hands-on mama who poured herself into every aspect of his life. She spent countless hours helping him with school, playing with him, dancing with him, and doing crafts together. She taught him how to master making brownies, a small tradition that carried enormous meaning. Amy and Aiden were inseparable, and the bond they shared was evident to everyone around them. She wanted Aiden to know he was loved completely, and he was. Aiden was her pride, her purpose, and her greatest joy. Those who knew Amy will remember the way her face lit up when she talked about him, and how she poured every ounce of herself into giving him a life full of warmth and love. Amy was also a wonderful cook who enjoyed preparing meals for her family. Though reserved by nature, Amy's love for her family was unmistakable and unwavering. She was especially close to her grandmother, Dolores Tompa, regularly visiting with her and driving her to appointments, a tender routine that spoke to the depth of her caring heart. She didn't need recognition for the things she did; she simply showed up for the people who needed her. Amy found her own quiet pleasures in life as well. She enjoyed playing scratch-offs, Keno, Powerball, and working through Sudoku puzzles, finding satisfaction in both the thrill of chance and the calm of logic. Amy is survived by her beloved son Aiden James; mother Mary Kay; father Dennis; sister Anna; brother Noah; grandmother Dolores; uncle and godfather Gregory (Rochelle), uncles William, Kenneth, and Dave; aunts Lola, June, Dorothy, Barbara (Michael), and Sandra; cousins Joshua, Rebecca, Jeremiah, Jamie, Alison, David, Bruce, Olivia, William, Christopher, Emily, Molly, Benjamin, Kellie, Ryan, Derek, Tyler, Nolan, Paige, David, Joseph, Richard, Brian, Vanessa, Jennifer, Magical John, Darlene, David, Lisa, Francisco, Connie, Robert, Ralph, Christina, Thomas, and Christopher; and many other family members and friends who loved her dearly. She was preceded in death by her grandparents Albert, Jose, and Concepcion; aunt and godmother Maureen; uncles Christopher and Joseph; and cousin Meghan. Amy's family takes comfort in knowing that she is now reunited with those who went before her, held in the embrace of a love that transcends this life. In her memory, they hold close the words of prayer that have sustained them through this time of sorrow: "Hail Mary, full of grace, the Lord is with thee. Blessed art thou among women, and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus. Holy Mary, Mother of God, pray for us sinners, now and at the hour of our death. Amen." A visitation with the family will be held on Friday, August 7th, from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Raymond Funeral Home, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20645. Mass and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to a scholarship fund for her son.
