Thomas Randall Norris

Thomas Randall “Randy” Norris, 72, of Hughesville, MD, died August 20th, 2024, at Georgetown Hospital in Washington DC, after a courageous battle with lung cancer surrounded by his loving family. Randy was born on September 23, 1951, in Leonardtown, MD, to the late Thomas Clarence “Pete” Norris and Patricia Ann Greene Norris Cullison. Randy was also privileged to be raised by the late John Bernard “Bernie” Cullison. On January 22nd, 1981, Randy married his beloved wife, Mary Theresa Williams Norris. Over the next 43 years, they built a wonderful life together filled with love and cherished memories. During this time, Randy welcomed and lovingly raised Theresa’s two boys, James Christopher “JC” Leavy and Joshua Cameron “Josh” Leavy, embracing them as his own with open arms. Randy started his career as a life insurance agent for People’s Life in 1971. Over his approximately 43-year tenure with the company, he witnessed several changes in the company’s name but remained loyal until his retirement when the company was named Transamerica. Throughout his career, he achieved significant accomplishments. Initially starting as an agent, he was later promoted to Sales Manager and successfully led his team to great success. Continuing to advance his career, he became a District Manager. He was consistently a top seller throughout his career, earning numerous awards, attending 32 conferences, and securing the President’s trophy six times. Randy was a devoted family man outside of his professional life. He cherished his role as a husband, dad, and especially as "Pappy." Randy found joy in life’s simple pleasures, such as the smell and view of freshly cut grass, mints, getting haircuts, and being able to feed and watch his hummingbirds. His daily routine often included a stop at 7-11 for coffee and trips to Ace Hardware and Tractor Supply to gather supplies for his numerous projects. He also enjoyed playing his lottery numbers, hoping to win one day, and around the holidays, you could find him by the TV, watching his favorite movie “Planes, Trains and Automobiles.” Randy was often found at the dragstrip, enjoying time with his racing family. He also devoted time to building and racing Mustangs with his sons, Jc and Josh Leavy, and grandson, Jarrett Leavy, and was anticipating watching his granddaughter, Skye Leavy, race. Perhaps most notably, Randy had a deep passion for his '68 Ford Mustang, which he regularly drove around the county. Previously, he had raced the car with his sons, and he enjoyed entering his car in numerous car shows. In addition to his beloved wife, Theresa, Randy is also survived by his sons James Leavy (Anna) of California, MD., Joshua Leavy (Marlene) of Charlotte Hall, MD; his grandchildren Jarrett Leavy, Camryn Leavy, Skye Leavy; his step-grandchildren Kayla Padgett (John), Ami Hayden; his great-grandchildren Allison Padgett, Olivia Padgett, and Aubree Padgett; his siblings Sharon Purcell (Joe) of Ridge, MD., Brian Norris (Kim) of Leonardtown, MD; his nieces and nephews Jennifer Purcell, Joey Purcell III(Kelly), Melissa Norris, Angela Norris, Jason Thompson (Brandi), Jessica Freeman, Jacqueline Norris, Kateline Norris, and Jonathan Norris; and his many great nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and stepfather, he is predeceased in death by his sister, Nancy Jane Norris Thompson, and his brother, Jerry Howard “Hal” Norris. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, September 3rd, 2024, from 2:00 PM to 4:00 PM and 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM for visitation, with prayers recited at 7:00 PM at Raymond’s Funeral Home in LaPlata, MD. The following day, a memorial service will be held on Wednesday, September 4th, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Raymond’s Funeral Home in LaPlata, MD. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, Waldorf, MD. Serving as pallbearers will be Jarrett Leavy, Joey Purcell, Brian Canfield, Chuck Mcalwee, John Padgett, Jimmy Hill, Willie Washington, and Robert Butch Gregory Jr. Honorary pallbearers are Joe Purcell II, Jonathan Norris, Jimmy Willet, Robbie Chichester, and Austin Lord.
