Rita Irene Younger

Rita Irene (Behm) Younger, 81 of La Plata, MD died on November 25, 2021. Rita was born on February 28, 1940 in Council Bluffs, IA to the late Paul Benedict and Mary Bridget (Gilmore) Behm. Rita was a Registered Nurse for 40 years having retired from Civista Medical Center, formerly Physicians Memorial Hospital after 25 years of dedicated service. She enjoyed sewing, making all her children’s clothing, doll clothes and costumes and later in life helping with her grandchildren. After retiring she spent time crafting and quilting, shopping, going to the casino, and taking day trips with her girlfriends. She was a member of the Red Hat Society and had regular luncheons with a group of retired nurses. She loved animals, especially her favorite dog bred the miniature schnauzer. She took pride in pleasing her family for Christmas and other holidays. As a Military wife she traveled all across the United States and to Canada. Every morning for breakfast she would go to McDonald and order the same meal, senior diet Coke with no ice and a breakfast burrito. The workers at McDonald came to know her by name and often recognized her as soon as she started her order. Her sharp, quick wittedness and wicked sense of humor will be missed by all who knew her. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death be her husband, John B. Younger, sisters; Mary Claire and Kate, and son in-law, Ralph Stone. She is survived by her children; John S. Younger and his wife Rosalee, Julie R. Walter and her husband Joe, and Janine M. Stone, Grandchildren; Emily Schmouder and her husband Cody, Ben Walter, Arieal Younger, Crystal Younger, Jimmy Stone and his wife Tina, and Sean Stone and his wife Erica, Great-Grandchildren; Trinity Younger, Kira Nicholas, Shealyn Stone, Donovan Stone, Waverly Stone, Ella Stone, Schuyler Stone, and Riggin Stone, and sisters; Patricia, Joan and Paula. She is also survived by 3 very dear friends, Millie, Annie and Pat. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Thursday, December 2, 2021 at 10:00 AM at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 13715 Notre Dame Place, Bryantown, MD 20617. Inurnment will follow in the church cemetery.
