Phyllis Curtin Russell Obituary - Visitation & Funeral Information

PHYLLIS CURTIN RUSSELL FORT WASHINGTON, MD Phyllis passed away peacefully on May 23, 2022, with her husband, John, and family members by her side. Phyllis was born on January 4, 1938, in Washington, D.C. While in high school she met the love of her life, her husband, John. After knowing each other for only two weeks they eloped to North Carolina and were married on May 29, 1955. Phyllis always said this was the day her life began. After her wedding, the city girl moved to a farm in Maryland. Phyllis helped on the farm, where among many things she learned to ride a wild horse and the difference between a tomato and a strawberry. She was a homemaker who loved cooking, especially corn beef for Pop and big holiday dinners. She took on the role of nurse as she was the only one that knew how to give Pop his shots the “right” way. Later, Phyllis worked for the Prince George’s County Police Department. After retiring, she and John moved to South Carolina. Phyllis is survived by John, her loving husband of 67 years. Her children Celia Boston (Gary), Mary Butkiewicz (Jerry), William Russell, Sr. (Donna, who was like a daughter and cared for her everyday) and James Russell. She is survived by her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and devoted friends. Phyllis is predeceased by her parents, William and Mary Cecelia Curtin, her beloved “Dama” and her in-laws “Grandma and Pop.” Visitation will be held at 11:00am until time of service at 12:00pm on Saturday, June 11, 2022 at Raymond Funeral Service, P.A., 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646.
