Myrtle Moody Currie

Myrtle Moody Currie passed away peacefully on March 12, 2021 at the Hospice House in Waldorf, Maryland. Myrtle was born in 1934 in Bennettsville South Carolina, the oldest of five children, to the late Alton Bob Moody and the late Myrtle Patterson Moody. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her sister, Bertha Mae Rodgers, and her brother, Alton Moody. After graduating from Bennettsville High School in 1954 she went to work for the FBI in Washington DC as a secretary. One weekend, she was introduced to Airman Everett Currie and the rest was history. They were married in Darlington South Carolina on February 22, 1958. In 1966, she left the FBI to become a homemaker and take care of her family. During her life she held several part-time jobs, including working at the Southern Maryland Merchandiser/PennySaver. She also volunteered at Malcolm Elementary and in the front office of John Hanson Middle School. She never met a stranger. Myrtle was a also a life-long member of Calvary United Methodist Church. She taught the two and three year Sunday School class for over 35 years. She loved her church and was often seen pushing the lawn mower or planting flowers. Myrtle loved to celebrate birthdays. Every Sunday she would seek out the birthday boy or girl, no matter what their age, and pin them with a happy birthday sticker. She could also be found in the church kitchen, whipping up yummy dishes for the Second Cup Cafe, and talking with her friends. She was also a member of the mall walkers, getting up every morning to walk the mall with her husband and her friends. She also enjoyed flowers and, in the summertime, her yard would be full of flowers. She would sometimes be found helping Everett tend to his garden. She is survived by her loving husband of 63 years Willie "Everett" Currie; daughters, Lynette Starke (Craig) of Brandywine, Maryland and Victoria Swanson (Van) of Gainesville, Virginia; grandchildren, Shelby, Morgan, and Garrett Starke and Gunner, Gage and Draven Swanson; sister, Sara Killian of Columbia, South Carolina; and brother, John Hugh Moody of Bennettsville, South Carolina. By far, Myrtle’s biggest accomplishment was her grandchildren and she made an impact on their lives. She was so proud of them and no accomplish went unrecognized. She was there for every honor roll ceremony, promotion, and graduation, she was their biggest cheerleader! A Visitation will be held on Friday, March 19, 2021 from 10:00am until time of Funeral Service at 12:00pm at Calvary United Methodist Church, 3235 Leonardtown Road, Waldorf, Maryland 20601. Interment will take place on March 31, 2021 at 1:45pm at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, Maryland 20623. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Myrtle’s memory may be made to Calvary United Methodist Church, 3235 Leonardtown Road, Waldorf, Maryland 20601 or to Hospice of Charles County, 2505 Davis Road, Waldorf, Maryland 20603.
