Mary Sue Shaughnessy

January 17, 1951 - May 3, 2022

On May 3rd, 2022, Mary Sue Shaughnessy, beloved wife of Glenn Jones; mother to Zach (Katie) and Kelsey (Patrick); grandmother to Savannah; and best friend to Shenanigans and Myrtle, rested her eyes and joined the angels in heaven. Mary was born January 17th, 1951 in Washington, D.C. and grew up in the Takoma Park area. She lived 71 fabulous years on this earth, helping people each day. Mary, also better known by some as Dr. Shaughnessy or Dr. Mary, was an outstanding psychologist who served Southern Maryland and the surrounding areas for most of her life. Mary enjoyed going to yoga, planting in her garden, sitting on the deck with her husband Glenn- watching the birds and chasing off pesky squirrels. She also particularly loved family days, where she was surrounded by her kids, their spouses, and her lovely granddaughter. Mary left us unexpectedly, but that does not mean that she is gone. When you see a cardinal perched on your lawn or a dragonfly fly by, think of her. When you hear a cat meow or a hummingbird flutter its wings, think of her. When you see anything purple, think of her. She is in all the little things that make this world so special. She is gone too soon, but her legacy and love will always surround us. Services for Mary will be held at Raymond Funeral Home on Tuesday May 10th, one session from 2-4pm, and then another session from 6-8pm, with prayers from a deacon at 7pm. Mary was an incredible, feisty woman who made this world a better place, please join us in honoring her on May 10th.
