January 26, 1952 - March 30, 2021
Elizabeth Anne (Krugle) Watson passed away peacefully on March 30, 2021 with her family by her side. She was born on January 26, 1952, in New Kensington, PA, the first child of the late Lucy (Pizoli) Krugle and Richard Krugle. She grew up in Harwick, PA, attended Springdale High School, and received a BS in Mathematics from Indiana University of Pennsylvania. She moved to Maryland in 1973 to work with disadvantaged children. She first taught math at Andrew Jackson Middle School in Prince Georges County then transferred to St. Peter’s School, Waldorf, MD, in 1980 to be closer to home after her first daughter was born. Beth was one of the most caring, compassionate, giving people on the earth and her death leaves a crater sized hole in the hearts of her family and friends. Her family always came first. She dedicated her life to her children and grandchildren ensuring their success and happiness in any way she could. Beth treasured spending time with them whether reading books at bedtime, tackling household projects, or winning family games of hand and foot. She was generous with her love which was felt deeply by her entire family, especially her children and grandchildren, who will forever know they had the best Mom and Nona ever. Beth loved to travel the world with her extended family. From exploring the catacombs at St. Peter’s Basilica in Rome, climbing the high hills of Ireland, hiking the Cliffs of Moher, walking the shores of Normandy Beach, or horseback riding in Sedona, AZ, Beth was always up for it. If anyone in the family so much as suggested a trip or event that they were interested in, she started planning immediately. She demonstrated to her family and those around her the importance of making the most of every moment. She treated her friends like family. Her three children grew up with many aunts, uncles, and cousins that came from close family friends. Beth was always there for anyone who needed help, always had good advice to give, and an ear to listen. “Mrs. Watson” was the middle school math, science, and religion teacher at St. Peter’s School for 37 years and the go-to teacher for generations of St. Peter’s families. If any of her students had difficulties, she volunteered her time to help them succeed. She received the Golden Apple Award for excellence in teaching and commitment to Catholic education by the Archdiocese of Washington in 2009. Beth’s faith was strong, she was an active parishioner serving as a Eucharistic Minister, choir member, and Member of the Parish Finance Council at St. Peter’s. For many years she was a member of the Lioness Club, a service organization, in Waldorf, MD. She made countless donations and volunteered her time to various local causes and people in need. Her skills and talents were many and diverse. She was an avid gardener. She was an amazing potter, needleworker, and seamstress. She recently took up watercolor and created beautifully delicate, expressive cards for family and friends. Beth was an artist, for her the joy came from both the process and the finished product. Her talents did not end with the arts, she could wield a tool and fix, install, and engineer household repairs. She was a jack of all trades and master of them all. Beth is survived by her loving, dedicated family: children Julie (Derek Coghlan) Watson, Elisa (Mike Smith) Watson, and Richard (Courtney Fisher) Watson, grandchildren Jack Coghlan, Finn Coghlan, Ryan Smith, and Elliott Smith, sister Jodi (Lou) Yuhas, brother John (Kim) Krugle, sister-in-law Lane (Tom) Coyle, and many nieces, nephews, great aunts, and cousins. The family held a private memorial and burial. A celebration mass will be held at 10AM on Wednesday, July 14, 2021 at St Peter’s Catholic Church. Memorial contributions may be made in Beth’s name to the local food bank.
