Donald H. Herndon

March 31, 1933 - March 2, 2022

Donald Heber Herndon, 88, of La Plata, Maryland, passed away at his home on Wednesday, March 2, 2022. Born on March 31, 1933 in Takoma Park, Maryland, he was the son of the late Herman Herndon and Sarah Frances Herndon. Donald served in the U. S. Army before being Honorably Discharged in 1955 at the rank of Corporal. Don returned to work at C and P Telephone Company, where he served in several positions until he retired. He then worked part time at Southern Maryland Oil in La Plata. Donald enjoyed gardening and doing home repairs. He was of the Baptist faith and a member of La Plata Baptist Church. In addition to his parents, Donald is preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Marilynn Joyce Herndon. He is survived by his sons D. Craig Herndon, Glen R. Herndon, and Christopher R. Herndon; nine grandchildren; three great grandchildren; Ronnie and Shirley Blush. A visitation will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2022 from 9:30AM until time of service at 10AM at the La Plata Baptist Church, 9400 Old Stagecoach Road, La Plata, Maryland 20646. Interment to follow at Cedar Hill Cemetery, 4111 Pennsylvania Avenue, Suitland, Maryland 20746.
