Betty "Bootsie" Virginia Welch

August 26, 1945 - March 1, 2022

Betty “Bootsie” Virginia Welch, 76, of King George, Virginia, formerly of Nanjemoy, Maryland peacefully passed away at home on Tuesday, March 1, 2022 surrounded by nieces Lisa Simmons and Michelle Haley, nephew Brandon Simmons. Born on August 26, 1945 in La Plata, Maryland, she was the daughter of Virginia K. Finley and the late Lawrence R. Wedding. As a young girl of nine, Betty’s father purchased a piano for her and she begun taking piano lesions. She continued playing that same piano, on special occasions, at her own home. She worked in Human Resources and Financial Management for the Federal Government for many years before retiring. Betty enjoyed watching NASCAR races as well as collecting NASCAR memorabilia. Her favorite NASCAR driver was Denny Hamlin #11. Betty was an avid fan of Elvis Presley and also collected Elvis memorabilia. She was a fan of the Washington Redskins. Along with her mother and step-father, James Finley, Sr, Betty is survived by her sisters Regina Risko, Rita Wedding, and Mary Lou Croisetiere; brothers Charles Wedding, James Finley, Jr, and Robert Finley; nieces and nephews Raymond Stickel, Brandi Sorzano, Michelle Haley, Lisa Simmons, Amber Chaloux, Michael Finley, and Jamey Finley; also survived by several great nieces, great nephews, other relatives and friends. A visitation will be held on Monday, March 7, 2022 from 2PM to 4PM and from 6PM to 8PM and on Tuesday, March 8, 2022 from 12Noon until time of service at 1PM at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A., 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646. Interment to follow services at Nanjemoy Baptist Church, 3030 Baptist Church Road, Nanjemoy, Maryland 20662. Pallbearers are Brandon, Simmons, Bryce Simmons, Evan Simmons, Thomas Simmons, William Peterman, and Robert Sorzano.
