Virginia "Ginny" Elenora Douglas

Heaven has welcomed the most amazing woman, Virginia Elenora Douglas, into its loving care. Virginia, also known by loved ones, friends and family as Ginny, Gin, Mom, Grandma, and Grandma Ginny died on June 6, 2026 and the world is now a quieter, less flavorful place without her. Ginny was born on January 7, 1933, in St. Louis, Missouri to Adam and Nathalie Ramatowski. She married Frank Douglas on May 5, 1990 and for 25 years together they enjoyed entertaining, fishing, crabbing and boating on the Potomac River. Their boat was appropriately named Reeliving. Once you came to visit you were always welcome to stop by and enjoy her river retreat. While raising four children in Maryland, she attended Prince Georges Community College and became an RN and worked at various hospitals giving care and comfort to many. Once retired, she continued her passion of sewing and was often found at the sewing machine creating beautiful works of art in her may quilts. In between her sewing projects, she could be found cooking one of her mother’s Polish recipes, creating her own or steaming crabs, leaving no one without leftovers. Ginny is survived by her children, Christi Blaney, Carol Erickson (Robert/Erik) and Teresa Hixon Viamonte (Chris); her grandchildren, Sandi Blaney Crownover, Keith Tucker, Leslee Tucker, Jessica (Jessie) Chesnutt, Jacob (Jake) Chesnutt, Daniel (Danny) Hixon, Alexander (Alex) Viamonte; her great grandchildren, Ashleigh Dziarnowski, Bethany Dziarnowski, Madison Tucker, Nicholas (Nick) Nelvis, Ethan Chesnutt, Mila Hixon, and Oliver Chesnutt and; her sisters, Rosalie (Rose) Hrubetz, Cathy Carmody (Tom) and brother Eugene (Gene) Ramatowski (Chong Ha); and more extended family and friends than could fit in any church. She was preceded in death by her husband, Frank, her son Jeffrey Balawajder, her brother George Ramatowski, her infant sister Mary Ann Ramatowski and the father of her children, Henry Balawajder. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, June 15, 11:00 AM, preceded by visitation at 10:00 AM at Holly Ghost Catholic Church in Newburg, MD. Following the service, we will all gather at Ginny’s home at 12285 Potomac View Road to celebrate her life, share stories of “reeliving” on the water as she would have wanted, as her bright spirit lives on. A final urn burial will take place at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery on Tuesday, July 21, 2026 at 11:15 AM.
