Violet Christy

Violet T. Christy of Fenwick Landing Assisted Living Home in Waldorf, MD, passed away peacefully into the arms of the Lord on March 23, 2011 (11 days short of her 92nd birthday) . She was born April 2, 1919, to the late Peter and Teresa Grbich of Seattle, WA. She was an only child and a graduate of West Seattle High School in 1938. She married John Dale Christy in 1941 just as he was sent on his first Naval assignment in the Pacific. As his beloved wife of 61 years, they were stationed at numerous naval ports. In the 60's, they retired to the Brandywine area. Violet was a homemaker and enjoyed cooking, sewing, crocheting, gardening and would always look forward to spring when she could plant her flowers. She is also survived by numerous Christy family members in Indiana and New York. Violet and John enjoyed many evenings of cards and games with dear friends Phyllis and Warren Decker and Sandra and David Cross. They were always a part of the Decker/Cross family events and holiday meals, and the family would look forward to “Aunt Violet” bringing homemade chocolate chip cookies and hot rolls to all our gatherings. Violet was a member of Immanuel United Methodist Church where she made many friends. She was indebted to several of her neighbors in Pinefield for the caring things they did for her and transportation they helped provide her during the years of their friendships. As Violet’s care givers, Sandy and Phyllis would like to give special thanks to the managers and staff of Fenwick Landing Assisted Living for their love and care during the past three years. They would also like to express their appreciation to the Hospice of Charles County for their many ways of support these past few weeks. Friends will be received on Monday, April 4, 2011, 11AM, at Maryland Veterans Cemetery Chapel, Cheltenham, MD, where a memorial service will be held. Rev. James Hunt will conduct the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in her name to Immanuel United Methodist Church, c/o 13801 Martin Road, Brandywine, MD 20613. A very special thanks to Mr. Raymond and his staff for their consideration, kindness and understanding at a time when it was most needed.
