Vincent Raymond James Janes Jr

Vincent Raymond James Janes, Jr., age 91, of Waldorf, MD passed away on February 6, 2026 in La Plata, MD surrounded by his loving family. He was born on April 24, 1934 in Cooke County, Chicago, IL to the late Vincent and Elsie Janes. Upon graduation from high school, he joined the Army and later transferred to the Air Force. During his military service, he became an aircraft mechanic. After serving his country, he continued his passion for flight and became an airline pilot with Capital Airlines (now United Airlines) from 1954 to 1964. In 1964, he transitioned to Eastern Airlines as a Captain until his retirement in 1986. After retirement, he joined the Maryland State Guard/Defense Force until 2004. He was a life member of Eastern Airlines Pilot Association, La Plata American Legion Post 82, Waldorf Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 8810, and Charles County Radio Control Club AMA #822. During his time with the Radio Control Club, he was able to share his passion with the younger generations. Along with his parents, Vincent is preceded in death by his wife of 52 years, Marjorie Janes; his son, Mark Janes; daughter-in-law, Diane Janes; grandchildren; Christa Messino, Wesley Janes, Sarah Janes, Stephanie Janes; and his sister, Arlene Baroni. Vincent is survived by his daughter, Marjorie Powers (Mark); sons, Thomas Janes, Vincent Janes, Gregory Janes (Heather Hartin); grandchildren, Ryan Janes, Shannon Janes (Tyler Compton), Vincent Janes (Kalea Rhodes), Teresa Donley (Brandon), Samantha Janes, Ricky Janes (Zoey Pittman), Nicholas Janes, Angel Hamblin, Kayla Janes, Zachary Janes, Joshua Janes, Matthew Powers; and great grandchildren, Ahlura Janes, Avah Janes, Adelina Compton, Vincent Janes, Jackson Janes, Levi Janes, Landon Bridgett, Caiden Bridgett, Troy Hamblin, Taryn Hamblin. Visitation will be held on Friday, March 6, 2026 from 1pm until the Funeral Service at 3pm at Raymond Funeral Service Chapel (5635 Washington Ave., La Plata, MD 20646). Following the funeral services, a repast will be held at 5pm at the Waldorf Jaycees (3090 Crain Hwy., Waldorf, MD 20601). Burial will take place on March 30, 2026 at 1:00 pm Maryland Veterans Cemetery 11301 Crain Hwy, Cheltenham, MD 20623.
