Ruth Jean Fluharty

Ruth Jean (Barnhart) Fluharty was born on Friday June 16th 1939 and crossed from this world into eternal life with the Lord on Tuesday January 21st 2025. Her family and friends will miss her but rejoice in knowing that her husband of 63 years Bob Fluharty, her parents Harold and Laura Barnhart, her sister and brother-in-law Betty and DeLoyd Barkely, and a great number of other family members who preceded her were there to welcome her home. Ruth's greatest joy came from being with family members, especially her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She also enjoyed playing the piano and organ at church services, camping, crafting, painting ceramics, and even crabbing. She is survived by her two sons and their families - Michael and his wife Ginger and Jeffrey and his wife Jeanine and six grandchildren - Michael Jr. and his wife Katherine, Allison; Jonathan, Justin, Julianna, and Jillian - and two great grandchildren Nicholas and Finn. Ruth and Bob moved to Clinton Maryland in 1974 and attended Melwood Church of the Nazarene. The last few years of their lives were spent at the Charleston Senior Living facility in Waldorf Maryland. Their primary caregiver was Ms. Cathy Kelton but there were many others who took great care of Bob and Ruth and treated them like they were their own family. We want to recognize Cathy and all the other caregivers and say thank you from the bottom of our hearts. Through COVID, Parkinsons, and Dementia you were their lifeline to normalcy. Friends will be received Friday, February 14th, 2025 from 10:30 am - 12:30 pm followed by a memorial service at Raymond Funeral Home, 5635 Washington Avenue LaPlata Maryland 20646. The service will be officiated by her nephew, the Reverend Larry Barkley of Weirton West Virginia. Ruth will then be laid to rest with her husband Bob at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway Cheltenham Maryland 20623. A repast will be held immediately following interment at a location to be determined. All are welcome to attend. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be made "In memory of Ruth Fluharty" to Melwood Church of the Nazarene, 6906 Woodyard Road Upper Marlboro Maryland 20772.
