Roger Anthony Palmer

Roger Anthony Palmer of White Plains, MD passed away peacefully on August 15, 2026 after a long illness surrounded by the love of his family. Roger was born on November 5,1946 in Schenectady NY and was the son of the later Roger Palmer and Josephine (Riccardi) Palmer. Roger graduated from Mt. Pleasant High School in Schenectady in 1964. In September of that year, he joined the United States Marines. He was a proud retired United States Marine Corps Vietnam Veteran who served his country with honor and dedication. Following his military service, he continued his commitment to public service with a distinguished career as a Washington D.C. Police Officer retiring in 1989. After retirement from the Police Department, he was a security guard for the DEA. Above all else, Roger was a devoted and loving son, husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. He took immense joy in watching his children and grandchildren grow, especially cheering them on at their sporting events. Roger enjoyed life's simple pleasures. He was an avid Baltimore Orioles fan and loved watching NHL Hockey and Lacrosse. Whether following his favorite teams or sitting in the stands supporting his children and grandchildren, he found his greatest happiness spending time with the people he loved. His legacy is one of service, strength, loyalty and unwavering love for his family. His quiet strength, dedication and generous spirit will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. Roger is survived by his beloved wife Ellen (Twohig) Palmer, whom he shared a lifetime of love (57 years), his sons Michael (Karen), Vincent (Amy), John (Missy) and Steve who made him so proud, his grandchildren who he adored - Brittany (Charlie), Brandon (Sam), Vincent, Carson, Siena, Chase, Mackenzie, Ali, Penny and great-grandchildren - Vivien, Dominic and Gwenivier, his loving sister Mary Lou Lyons and brother-in-law Jack, Sister-in-Law Veronica Dietz, Brother-in Law and Sister-in-Law Richard and Carolyn Twohig, loving Cousin (like a sister) Colleen Palleschi and her family, Nieces and Nephews - Carrie (Keith) Miller, Kellie (Tom) Caprood, Theresa (Jeff) Gunlicks, Leo Kovalik, Gary (Brandy) and Christopher Twohig and their families. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will cherish his memory. Roger was predeceased by his in-laws Francis and Nora Twohig, brother-in-law Thomas Dietz and Chip and Mike Palleschi. A visitation will be held on Monday, September 14, 2026 from 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A., 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646. Mass of Christian Burial will be offered on Tuesday, September 15, 2026 at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 4590 St. Joseph Way, Pomfret, Maryland 20625. Interment to follow at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, Maryland 20623. The family asks that in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Parkinson's disease research in Roger's honor.
