Robert Crawford

Robert Hayden Crawford, Jr., 51, of Mechanicsville, died June 24, 2011, at St. Mary’s Hospice House, surrounded by family and friends, after an 8-month battle with Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (Lou Gehrig’s disease). Born October 5, 1959, in Winchester, Virginia, he was the son of the late Julia Joyce (Styles) and Vincent James Pewdo of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Bobby is survived by his wife, Linda Jo Crawford; his son Robert Vincent Crawford (Shannon) of Mechanicsville; a daughter, Jennifer Lynn Shelton of Gaithersburg; two beautiful granddaughters who made his heart smile, Madison Rose Crawford and Alyssa Marie Bearns; his brothers, John R. Hornung (Theresa) of Pennsylvania; Joseph Pewdo Campbell (Sandra) of California; and a sister, Frances Mitchell of California. He was employed as a heavy equipment operator for Chaney Enterprises, a mechanic for M & M Fleet Maintenance Service of Hyattsville, and a long-time commercial truck driver for R & R Fabrication of Prince Frederick. Known to friends and co-workers as Cowboy, Bobby enjoyed horseback riding, league and tournament bowling, riding his beloved Harley Davidson motorcycle locally and cross-country with the All American Harley Owners Group, and Friday night dinners at Captain Leonards with dear friends. During his illness, he enjoyed spending time with his family, especially “Tink”; reconnecting with long-lost friends; watching westerns; Tuesday dates with his special friend, Darlene Jones; daily visits with Mary Ellen Hill of St. Mary’s Hospice; and visiting with the staff and patients at Freedom Therapy. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, June 28, from 2 to 4 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m., at Raymond Funeral Service, in La Plata. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, June 29, at 10:30 a.m., at Raymond’s, with interment immediately following at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Baden. Pallbearers will be Edward L. Williams, Jr.; Edward L. Williams, III; Eddie Bartron; Sam Jones; Mark “Doc” Truesdale; Russell Dabbs; and James Neely. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of St. Mary's, P. O.
