Randy Ray Hart

Randy Ray Hart, age 62, loving husband, father, brother, brother-in-law, uncle, cousin and treasured friend, passed away in the care of his family and Delaware Hospice on Monday, June 30, 2015 after a courageous fight with cancer. Randy was born on November 6, 1952, in Washington, DC, to John Wesley and Irma Virginia Hart. He was raised in Oxon Hill, MD where he found his lifelong girlfriend, Susan Burton. They were married on June 15, 1974. Randy and Susan made their home in Waldorf, MD where they raised their two children, Greg and Melanie. They retired to Millsboro, Delaware in 2013. The greatest love of Randy’s life was family. His wife was his best friend and he was actively involved in his children’s lives as provider, protector, teacher, cheerleader and advisor. His happiest times were those spent coaching and cheering on family members at sporting events, celebrating holidays and taking day trips and family vacations. Randy dedicated himself to serving others through his volunteer work. His leadership and organizational skills made Charles County a better place to live. He served the Greater Waldorf Jaycees as Community Development Vice President, President, and Chairman of the Board. He was also on the Board of Directors of the Waldorf Little League where he enjoyed coaching T-Ball and softball for 15 years. Close to his heart was his success in local and state fundraising projects to find a cure for Cystic Fibrosis. Raising money to fund the Robert D. Stethem Memorial Sports Complex in Charles County, helping to install bleachers on the 10 fields and serving on its Board of Directors that oversaw the building of the complex was one of Randy’s proudest accomplishments. He was instrumental in obtaining a grant from the Waldorf Jaycees Foundation to establish a Special Needs Program at the Charles County Capital Clubhouse that secured specialty equipment to allow access to the NHL-sized ice rink to Life Skills and Special Needs students in Charles County schools and persons with disabilities. Randy worked for Washington Gas Light Company for over 31 years and retired as an Information Architect in 2004. After retiring from Washington Gas, he became Operations Manager and Special Needs Coordinator at the Charles County Capital Clubhouse, where he enjoyed learning to cut the ice with a Zamboni. Randy will be remembered for his humor, spirit of adventure, generosity and the tenaciousness that allowed him to achieve significant accomplishments in many diverse endeavors. He enjoyed traveling with his family, especially to National Parks and to France and England. He shared a passion with his wife for the ocean and they both became certified PADI divers in 2000 and traveled to many places on diving adventures. Randy is survived by wife, Susan Hart; his son, Gregory Hart of Philadelphia, PA; his daughter, Melanie Scott and her husband Jeff Scott of Dunkirk, MD; a brother, Dan Hart and his wife Brenda of Crownsville, MD; and in-laws, Carol and Ed Isakson of Spokane, WA, Sally and Jon Wilk of Lexington, KY, and Laurence and Sheryl Burton of Salt Lake City, UT. He also leaves beloved nieces and nephews. His mother, Irma Hart and his father John Hart, along with pets Jessie and Marcel, preceded him in death. Friends will be received on Saturday, July 11, 2015, from 11:00AM until memorial service time at 12:00PM at The Greater Waldorf Jaycee Community Center, 3090 Crain Hwy, Waldorf, MD 20601.
