Maureen Constance Nehl

Maureen Constance Nehl of Bonita Springs, Florida, formerly of Maryland and Arizona, died on November 3, 2015. She was 68 years old. Born on October 6, 1947 in New York, New York, she was the daughter of the late Florence A. and the late Martin A. Walsh. She held a Master’s degree in Education and was a Special Education teacher for the Calvert County Public School system from which she retired. Maureen or "Mighty Moe" as many knew her, managed to live more in one lifetime than several people could in multiple lifetimes. Before becoming a wife and later mother to four very active and rambunctious sons she became a teacher in New York. On her off hours from teaching she earned her flight time to become one of the few female certified pilots of the 1960's on Long Island. Later she added blue water sailor, sailing instructor, scuba diver, parachutist, ukulele player and crocheting to her list of interests. After surviving breast cancer Moe developed a passion for motorcycles and became an avid rider logging over 200,000 miles. She served as the Safety Officer for the Fort Washington H.O.G. Chapter as well as a Motorcycle Safety Instructor with the College of Southern Maryland for 4 years. Moe earned multiple Iron Butt awards by riding her Harley through 49 states and all of Canada except for one province. Her travels also earned her the Iron Butt Association National Parks Tour Master Traveler GOLD Award. Her passion for life will live on through her loving children, family and friends across the country. She is survived by her children Dennis Nehl, Gregory Nehl, Kevin Nehl, and James Nehl; her siblings Patricia Caven and Eileen Walsh-Arhens; one grandchild. A visitation will be held on Friday, December 4, 2015 from 5PM to 8PM at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A. 5635 Washington Avenue La Plata, MD 20646. A Mass will be offered on Saturday, December 5, 2015 beginning at 11AM at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church 4590 St. Joseph Way Pomfret, MD 20675. Interment will take place at a later date at Pinelawn Memorial Park in Brooklyn, NY. Memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society P. O. Box 22478 Oklahoma City, OK 73123.
