Mary Dolores Mattia

Mary Dolores Boggs Mattia, age 84, of Camp Springs, Maryland, passed away peacefully with her family at her bedside at 3:00 p.m. on August 5, 2016 at Medstar Georgetown University Hospital in Washington, DC. Mary was born in Washington, DC on December 5, 1931 to Catherine and Charles Boggs. She was the youngest of four children, including, Charlie, Jack, and Bill Boggs. She married Joseph Bernard Mattia, Sr. in 1948, and they were married for 44 years until his death in February of 1992. They had three children, JoAnn Mary (Bush), Joseph Bernard, Jr., and Cathy Anne (Coyle). She is preceded in death by her husband Joseph, her brothers Bill and Jack, her daughter-in-law Robin, and her grandsons Michael Mattia and Matthew Hall. She is survived by her brother Charlie, 3 children JoAnn, Joseph Jr., and Cathy; son-in-law Jim, daughter-in-law Sharon, son-in-law David, and son-in-law John; 10 grandchildren, Kristina, Joseph III, Maureen, John, Julie, Steven, Michelle, Kyle, Ginger, and David; 14 great-grandchildren, Kristin, Tristen, Tyler, Kara, Angelina, Alexandra, Kyleigh, Jase, Georgia, Jonah, Nick, Braylin, Cannon, and Rhett; and her devoted and loving companion Allen Neave. Mary and Joe lived in Camp Springs, MD together until his death. After Joe’s death, Mary continued to embrace life and make the most of every minute with her family and a multitude of wonderful friends. She loved to travel and see the world, and she deeply treasured the times spent with her family and friends. Mary worked in the school cafeteria at Lord Baltimore Middle School. After retiring, she travelled extensively, and more recently served as a dedicated volunteer at Charles Regional Medical Center. She was permanently placed on the Honor Roll of Women at the hospital in June of 2016. She was a tremendously giving and loving person with a heart of pure gold, and she will be sorely missed by those who were fortunate enough to know and love her. Friends received on Monday, August 15, 2016 from 2-4PM and 6-8PM with Prayer Service at 7PM at Raymond Funeral Service in La Plata, MD. A funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, August 16, 2016 at 11:00 am at St. Joseph's Center, 11704 Duley Station Road, Upper Marlboro, Maryland 20772 with interment to follow at Resurrection Cemetery in Clinton, MD. The family would like to thank everyone for their kind words, thoughts, and prayers at this most difficult time. Mom was a friend to all, and anyone who knew her loved her. Her presence will continue to be felt in our hearts and through all of the lives that she touched.
