Marie Ella Douglas

Marie Ella Ross Douglas, 76 of Pomfret, MD passed away on November 16, 2019 at her residence. Marie was born on December 10, 1942 in the Township of Eldred, Jefferson County, Pennsylvania, to the late Floyd A. Ross and Lucy Greenawalt Ross of Sigel, PA. She was married to Charles R. Douglas, Sr. (Chuck or Charlie as she sometimes would call him) for 52 years. Marie's government career for the United States Census Bureau covered a span of 35 plus years. She first joined the Aviation Administration in Washington, DC in 1960, where she worked almost 8 years before returning home for 10 1/2 years to give her five children more love and attention in their pre-teen years. During those years she also babysat an extra 6 to 10 children everyday, so there was always a house full of excitement. After 10 1/2 years of all that constant activity, she was ready to rejoin the away-from-home workforce. At that time, she joined the Census Bureau in Suitland, Maryland where she enjoyed her next 28 years in the following areas: *Business Division in Economic Directorate ---approx. 5 1/2 years *Assistant Director for Automated Data Processing---approx. 8 1/2 years *Finance Division in Administrative and Management Directorate---approx. 4 1/2 years *Administrative Office of the Associate Director for Finance and Administration and Chief Financial Officer---almost 9 years, from which she retired on January 3, 2006. In addition to her parents she was preceded in passing by her husband, Charles R. Douglas, Sr. and her son-in-law, David C. (Chris) Meyers. She is survived by her daughters: Renee Douglas & fiancé, Steven Hanahoe; Angela Murphy & husband, John; Tina Meyers; Kerrie Tipton & husband, Rodney; and son Charles R. Douglas Jr.& wife, Lisa; Grandchildren: Kristin Douglas, Rochelle Love, Ryon Douglas, Anne Marie Boyden, Jessica Murphy, Allen, Devon & Trevor Meyers, Michael Williams, Krista Edwards, Lexi Douglas, Brandon, Brian & Robert Tipton; and 6 great-grandchildren. Visitation and time of sharing and prayer will be on Monday, December 16, 2019 from 5:00PM to 8:00PM at Raymond Funeral Service, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow on December 17, 2019 at 11:00AM, at St. Joseph's Catholic Church, 4590 Saint Joseph Way, Pomfret, MD 20675. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.
