June Crawford Spear

June Crawford Spear, 88, of La Plata, MD died on December 4, 2022 at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center, La Plata, MD. June was born on June 3, 1934, in Griffin, Georgia to the late Helen Askewline (Pickering) Crawford and Charles Thaddeus Crawford. As a child, June grew up and was educated in Macon, GA. She met and married William Howard Spear, Jr. in 1952, together they started a family in Macon. In 1963 they moved to Prince George’s County, MD and in 1967 they would move once more as a family to St. Charles, MD. She would remain in St. Charles until five years ago when June, as a widow, moved to La Plata, MD. June and her family were Charter Members of The First Baptist Church of St. Charles. June was a preschool teacher at The First Baptist Church of St. Charles Preschool and Kindergarten for over 20 years, where she developed lifelong relationships with several of her students and their families. She enjoyed hearing from and staying in contact with her former students throughout their life journey. June enjoyed flower gardening. She was known to transplant flower bulbs from home to home as she moved. At her home in La Plata, she had irises and spider lilies that were bulbs that originally belonged to her mother. She was a member of the Antique Arts Club, the 2N1 Club, and the Clark Senior Center, where she would participate in many of the activities that were offered. When June’s husband passed away in 2002, she took up the love of traveling the world. Since 2005, she had traveled to 5 out of the 7 continents, 42 countries, and throughout the United States to whatever destinations the Mystery Trips took her. In addition to her parents, June is preceded in death by her husband, William Howard Spear, Jr.; one grandson, Andrew Spear; and one brother, C. Edward Crawford. She is survived by her two sons, William “Bill” Spear and his wife Debbie, John C. Spear and his wife Debbie; one daughter, Winter Peed and her husband Billy; six grandchildren, Aaron Spear, Stephen Spear, Shannon Keys, Logan Peed, Amber Wodkins, and Breanne Peed; 9 great-grandchildren; one sister, Dale McDaniel; two sisters-in-law, Joyce Frey and Joan Spear; and many nieces and nephews. Friends will be received on Monday, December 12, 2022 from 10:00AM until time of Service at 12:00PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel, 5635 Washington Ave, La Plata, MD 20646. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in June’s name are asked to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital for Leukemia, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
