Judy Lee Modlin

Our dear mother, Judy Lee Modlin, passed away on 2-1-23 at the age of 74 surrounded by her children. Judy Modlin also known as, Ms. Judy, Aunt Judy and the most popular, Yiayia is from Waldorf, MD and passed away after years of battling colon cancer. Judy was born September 1, 1948 in Washington D.C. to Harold and Lucille Fleenor. She grew up in Maryland with her siblings, Harold (Sonny) and Cynthia (Cindy). Judy met the love of her life, James (Jimmy) Modlin, at a young age, and after their marriage, they decided to start their family in Suitland, MD. She had always said she wanted to be a wife and mother, and she and Jimmy are survived by their three children, Melissa (Missy), James (Jamey) and Jason. While in Suitland, Judy started her Christian journey. She joined the First Baptist Church of Suitland and became a central figure of the congregation. Eventually, she moved on to continue her faith in Waldorf, MD where she had remained a prominent member of the Trinity Baptist Church since 1983. When she moved to Waldorf, Judy began working as a legal secretary and she retired from Norton, Rose & Fulbright law firm after many years of dedicated service. During her retirement, she spent her days visiting family and friends, volunteering, and traveling. She was never home much, and she always had a bag packed and ready to go. Judy was a mother, sister, Aunt, friend and Yiayia to all. She never met a stranger; her kind heart reached beyond family, and she loved neighbors, friends, her church family & congregation, classmates, colleagues, friends-of-friends, and relatives-of-friends as if they were her own. The love she shared had no boundaries. She leaves behind a legacy of family and love. She will be dearly missy by her three children, Missy (John) Golden, Jamey (Stacy) Modlin, Jr., Jason (Mary) Modlin; her grandkids, Julian, Shauna Rae, Ryan, Jonathon, Hazel, William (Liam), Grace, Iris, Lucy and Sam; her great grand babies, Nicholas and Alexander; her brother Sonny & family; her sister, Cindy & family; her nieces and nephews; and all of her "family". Services will be held at Trinity Baptist Church, 2671 Mattawoman-Beantown Road, Waldorf, MD 20601 on February 11, 2023. Viewing will be 12n-3p. Celebration of Life service will start at 3pm and repast in the church hall will follow.
