In Loving Memory of Joseph "Joey" Louis Skinner October 28, 1958 - July 24, 2026 Joseph "Joey" Louis Skinner, 67, passed away unexpectedly on July 24, 2026, following a tragic accident at the shop he loved and devoted so much of his life to. Born on October 28, 1958, Joey is remembered not only for how hard he worked, but also for his generous heart, unwavering loyalty, and natural way of making people feel welcome. Joey began working on and towing vehicles as a teenager, learning the trade under his father's guidance. Those early years shaped the hardworking, knowledgeable man he became and marked the beginning of his lifelong connection to the automotive and towing world. When his father and his father's business partner retired, Joey took over S&M Body Shop, carrying forward far more than a business - he carried on a family legacy. The shop was an extension of Joey himself: dependable and always welcoming to friends. People stopped by not only to talk about cars, but to share stories, catch up, and have a drink with him. Joey was a long-standing member of the towing community. He towed for Charles County and the Maryland State Police Dept. He took great pride in his work, but the relationships he built along the way meant just as much to him. Away from work, Joey enjoyed the freedom of riding motorcycles and loved spending time at car shows and swap meets. Along time member of the Waldorf Moose Lodge, he looked forward each year to playing horseshoes, shuffleboard, and cornhole with his friends. Whether at the shop, the Moose Lodge, or a family gathering, Joey was happiest when surrounded by the people he cared most about. At the center of Joey's life was his beloved fiancée, Julia "Julie" Mack. Inseparable for more than 30 years, they built a life together filled with love, family, friendship, and countless shared memories. Julia's passing on March 10, 2026, left Joey heartbroken. Those who knew how deeply they loved one another take comfort in believing they are together once again. Joey is lovingly remembered by his stepchildren, Krystal Jester and her husband Chris; Jacqueline Hertenstein and her partner, Chris Lane; and Michael Mack; his grandchildren, Mackenzie and Killian Jester, Payton and Dru Hertenstein; his sister, Diane Hastings and her husband Gary, several nieces and nephews, other extended family members and cherished friends. He was preceded in death by his beloved fiancée, Julie Mack; his parents, Donald and Margaret "Peggy" Skinner; his brother, Donald "Donnie" Skinner; his sister-in-law, Brenda Skinner; and his niece, Amanda Skinner Williams. To know Joey was to know a man whose heart was every bit as big as his circle of friends. He showed his love by being there, working hard, staying loyal, and always making room for others. His sudden passing has left an immeasurable void in the lives of his family, friends, and community. Yet Joey's spirit will remain in the stories shared at the shop, the friendships he treasured, the family he loved, and the countless memories that will keep him close for years to come. A visitation will take place from 9:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m., with the funeral service beginning at 11:00 am on Saturday, August 8, 2026, at Raymond Funeral Service, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland. Interment will follow at Trinity Memorial Gardens, 3221 Mattawoman-Beantown Road, Waldorf, Maryland . A reception will follow at the Waldorf Moose Lodge, 4765 Crain Highway, White Plains, Maryland 20695.
