Joseph Franklin Buckler Sr.

Joseph (Joe) Buckler went to his eternal rest on December 31st, 2022, surrounded by his loving family. He was the third of nine children born to Henry L. and Margret (Grimes) Buckler of Charlotte Hall, MD. At an early age he worked on the tobacco farm for his family and for other local farmers. He continued to raise tobacco into his adult life. He graduated from LaPlata High School in 1966. While in high school he worked at the local service station, a job he remembered fondly. That is also the year he met and married the love of his life, Barbara A. (Clements) Buckler. Joe and Barbara would settle down in Waldorf and raise three children, Kim, Lisa, and Joseph. He always kissed Barbara good bye when he left the house and again when he returned. Joe worked as a Grocery Manager for Giant Food for over 30 years. After Joe retired from Giant, he worked part time driving a school bus for Charles County Schools. When Barbara was diagnosed with cancer four years ago, he lost his soul mate after 51 years of marriage. Joe enjoyed camping and traveling the country in his retirement. He enjoyed meeting new people and people watching. He loved western movies and tv shows. He was a hardworking, honest person, who raised his children to be the same. After retirement, he would not make an appointment before noon, since he had spent most of his life getting up before the sun had broken through the night. He found a new purpose in life with the birth of his grandchildren. He enjoyed being a hands-on Pop Pop attending multiple plays, sporting events, concerts, birthday parties and graduation ceremonies for his precious grandchildren. He is proceeded in death by his loving wife, Barbara Ann Buckler, Parents Henry and Margret Buckler, Brothers, Henry, James, and David Buckler, and sisters, Agnes Richardson, Roseanne Buckler, and Shirley Gonzalez. He is survived by his children, Kimberly (Brian) Floehr of LaPlata, MD, Lisa (James) Berry of Indian Head, MD, and Joseph (Melissa) Buckler of White Plains, MD; grandchildren Morgan, Shelby, and Matthew Floehr, James and Sara Berry, and Liberty Buckler; siblings Barbara Callis and Danny Buckler. A visitation will be held on Monday, January 9, 2023 from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM with Prayer service at 7 PM at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A., 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646. A Catholic Mass will be offered on Tuesday, January 10, 2023 at 11AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church of Pomfret, 4595 Saint Joseph’s Way, Pomfret, MD. Interment in the church cemetery to follow. Pallbearers are James Berry IV, Edward Blankenship Jr., James. Blankenship, Henry Buckler III, Henry Buckler IV, Mathew Floehr, Allen Latimer, and Dillon Miller.
