John W. Jarrett

John W. Jarrett, Major U.S.A.F. (Retired), 80, Nanjemoy, Maryland John W. Jarrett, 80, of Nanjemoy, Maryland died on January 27, 2014 after a short illness. Born October 5, 1933 in Washington, DC, he was the son of the late Wallace Orion and Dorothy Lee Jarrett. Growing up he spent time in the city and on the family farm, in Nanjemoy, Maryland. He always enjoyed farming, hunting, fishing and the game of football. He attended Wilson High School in the District of Columbia where he excelled at football. Upon graduation he went on to receive his degree from the University of Maryland. Mr. Jarrett served his country as a Fighter Pilot in the U.S. Air Force, flying the F-100 in missions at home and abroad. During pilot training, he chose to relax by racing stock cars and while in Japan he took up Judo and earned his black belt. Later in his career, Mr. Jarrett worked at the Pentagon, allowing him to return to farming and the outdoor life he loved. Upon Honorable Discharge from the USAF, he had attained the rank of Major. After his military career, Mr. Jarrett returned to the family farm and became involved in the stewardship of the land, being actively involved with the Charles County Farm Bureau. He served on several Veterans organizations in the county as well as lay positions within his church community. Being an excellent marksman, Mr. Jarrett continued to enjoy hunting with his adored Black Labradors and spending time with his family. Mr. Jarrett married Frances Alberta Barger Jarrett in 2010 and joined a large and endearing family. Along with his wife he is survived by a sister, Virginia Lee Jarrett; foster brother David Terbush; step-children Debbie Boyd and husband Thomas, Norma Ryan and husband Patrick, Bonnie Tyo and husband Robert, B. Bruce Barger and wife Bonnie; step-grandchildren Brian Barger, Allison Barger Eddy, Blair Boyd, Mark Boyd, Benjamin Hammer, Michael Hammer, Eric Hammer, Alex Tyo, Matthew Tyo and Katherine Tyo. He is also survived by his cousins in Germany, the Mutshlers. The Jarrett family would like to thank the many friends for their unending support, especially Sedrick and Veronica Cobey, Sonny, Barbara and Jeff Perry, Mark Smith, David McKeown, George Tibbs, Samuel Linton and Dr. Ken Watkins. Visitation on Friday, January 31, 2014 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Raymond Funeral Service, P.A., 5635 Washington Ave., LaPlata, MD 20646 and at St. James Episcopal Church Indian Head, MD 20640 on Saturday, February 1, 2014 from 12 noon until time of Funeral Service at 1 p.m. Interment will be held at a later date on the family farm.
