James Washington, Jr.

On Thursday November 5 , 2009, James Benjamin Washington Jr., quietly departed this life at Civista Medical Center and entered into eternal rest to be with our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. James was born, on August 14, 1940 to the late James Benjamin Sr., and the late Glenda Edna Mae Washington in Shiloh, Maryland. James attended Charles County Public Schools and was an alumnus of Bel Alton High School Class of 1959. He later became employed by the Department of Navy working at the naval Ordinance Station, in Indian Head, Maryland. He later became employed at Beretta until he became unable to work. On February 18, 1976, James married Shirley Matilda Chase. James was often called “JB”, “Wash”, “Dad”, “Granddad”, “Pop- Pop”, and “Poppy” he was a very loving and gentle person. He was a quiet and God fearing man. James enjoyed watching westerns, especially, his favorite “Tombstone”. His favorite game shows were Wheel-of-Fortune, and Price is Right. He was a pro at bid whist, spades, and pretty good at pitch. He loved having fun, being with his family, his grand children, and his church family. He enjoyed lasagna and cherry pie which was often made by his daughter, Bridget and his daughter–in-law Joyce Ann. It was truly a treat when John Briscoe would share his lemon meringue pie with him. He also loved when Joe Armstrong would come down and share jokes and laughter over crabs. James was preceded in death by Donald Washington and Juanita Clark. He leaves to celebrate his memory his devoted wife, Shirley M. Washington, his children, Bridget L. Govan (Ricardo), James A. Chase (Joyce Ann), Syiassa C. Washington (Bruce), Jason A., and Antwon T. Washington. Brothers, Thomas Washington, Alvin Jordan, and John Bowman. Brothers-in-law, Joseph and Lorenzo Chase (Margaret), and Thomas “Ben” Clark. Sisters-in-law, Theresa Chase, Gladys Briscoe (John), Constance Armstrong (Joseph), Donna Dorsey (William), and Earnestine Washington. Aunts, Alice Hemsley, and Ann Washington. Grandchildren, Ja’Von Johnson, Brittany Coffee, Destinee Davis, Deshaunee Washington, Bruce Proctor Jr. “MJ”, James Chase Jr. , Shameka Cooper, William Thomas, and Clifton Goldring. Great Grandchildren, JaDell Webster, Armani, Monae, and Jazzmyn Givens, Elijah, Jaylyn, Dominique, and Malichi, Thomas, and Jabari Goldring. Nephews, Darell Clark, and Donald Washington Jr., and niece, Stephanie Clark, in addition to a host of relatives and friends.
