James Louis McGuigan Jr

James “Junior” Louis McGuigan, Jr., 63, of King George, Virginia, went to be with the Good Lord on March 17, 2024. Junior was born on June 4, 1960, to the late James Louis McGuigan Sr. and the late Catherine Leona Jones in La Plata, Maryland. He spent his formative years in Bryans Road, Maryland where he attended school through the eighth grade. He went on to become a carpenter and rise through the ranks, ending his career as the Director of Field Operations at HR Construction Group. He was a faithful member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America — Local 132 where he remained a member until he medically retired in 2008. Throughout his career, he was known for his hard work, dedication, and no-nonsense attitude. More than anything, Junior loved to spend time with his family. He was a devoted son, brother, father, and grandfather who most enjoyed spending time with his grandsons and making them laugh. In his free time, Junior enjoyed watching football with his grandsons, riding motorcycles until he was no longer able, listening to music and watching Fox News at full blast, bickering with anyone that was a willing participant, and most recently lighting up everyone in Monopoly Go. He would never let you leave his house without a good story and a full belly. Junior is survived by his wife, Julie McGuigan, his three daughters: Tammie Mitchell (Jay), Amie Longfellow (Pat), and Katie McGuigan, three grandsons: Ryan Longfellow, Dylan Longfellow and Alex Mitchell, his brother: James M. McGuigan (Debbie), his sister: Debbie Barton (Kenny), as well as step-daughter: Alyse Moore, and five step-grandchildren: Noah Mitchell, Claire Mitchell, Peyton Purnell, Grace Purnell and Evyn Jackson, and many extended family members. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother William “Billy” Perky. Visitation will be held from 10:00 am – 12:00 pm with service beginning at noon at Raymond Funeral Service: 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. Interment to follow at New Life Church Cemetery in La Plata, Maryland. Memorial contributions may be made in the name of James L. McGuigan, Jr. to the American Cancer Society or the Wounded Warrior Project.
