Hans Peter Freimarck

Hans Peter Freimarck, 66, of La Plata, Maryland, passed away suddenly after a brief and heroic battle with esophageal cancer on November 5, 2020 at Johns Hopkins Hospital. Born on January 10, 1954 in Ludwigsburg, Germany, he is the son of the late Aron Freimarck and Lore Freimarck. Hans served in the U. S. Army for 20 years as a Military Working Dog (MWD) handler, master instructor, and trainer. Along with being known across the MWD community as a fierce advocate for his dogs and handlers, he is credited with developing and implementing many of the DoD’s K-9 policies still in effect today. Hans later focused on national security in the DC area airports driving critical change throughout explosive dog programs. He enjoyed being with his family, traveling the world with his wife, being a hero for his children and spending time with his working dog brothers and sisters. In addition to his parents, Hans was preceded in death by his brother Danny Freimarck. He is survived by his wife, Debra Freimarck; children, Shannon and her husband Ronald Robinette, Jamie and her husband Jesse Schroeder, Justin and his wife Ashley Freimarck, Stephanie and her husband Marshall Calvin; siblings, Aron Freimarck, Ronnie Freimarck, Gary Freimarck, and Sandy Freimarck; 13 grandchildren and one great grandchild. A public visitation will be held on Wednesday, November 11, 2020 from 1:30PM to 2:30PM at the Raymond Funeral Service, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. A private family time and service will be held afterward. Per COVID-19 guidelines, masks are required and social distancing is still in place. While the funeral home is operating with limited capacity, we ask that all visitors be mindful of others. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date and time.
