Gloria Doris Hampton

Gloria Doris Hampton of Riverside, MD passed away peacefully on January 4, 2023. She was born on September 24, 1927 to the late Lester and Daisy Jacques Burton. Originally from Putnam, Connecticut, she moved to Washington D.C. for work. She worked for the telephone company and also the FBI. She met and married her late husband Carl Hampton in 1948. They moved to Charles County and were the proprieters of the Pine Tree Inn until the early 60’s. She went to work for Physician’s Memorial Hospital as a switchboard operator. She later became the communications director and worked there for the next 30 years. She loved her job and has been called “the voice of PMH”. Gloria was preceded in death by Carl, her husband of 54 years. Her sister Jean, her stepchildren Carl Hampton Jr. and Mary Lou Neeley. Also her beloved nephew Robert “Chip” Hampton and dear friend Annabelle Warren. Gloria is survived by her son Wade(Cindy), Daughters Gloria Heisserman(Bill), Pam DiGiovanna(Tom) and Tracey Albrittain, Step-daughters Jane Strader and Joanne Stanforth. And even if they weren’t blood related, she was “grandma” to so many children, grand children, great grand children and great great grandchildren that we honestly lost count at 54. Gloria was active in many different organizations. She was a pillar of Christ Church-Durham Parish for many, many years. A past Vestry member and a member of the Durham Church Ladies Mite Society. Joe’s Place Food Pantry. Past Matron of the St. Columbus Chapter-Order of the Eastern Star. Past President of the Charles County Democratic Club. Board of Directors of the American Cancer Society of Charles County. Past Council member at the Clark Senior Center. One of the original Hospice of Charles County volunteers. Meals on Wheels. Chief Election Judge- Charles County Board of Elections. Member of the Homemakers Club for 25 years. Mentor at Mt. Hope Elementary School. Gloria was a hard worker and was often called the energizer bunny. She was tireless in her efforts to make others comfortable and happy. She loved her family and friends and having parties at her home in Riverside. Gloria loved to laugh and to have a good time. She cherished all the friendships she had made over the years. Or to Hospice of Charles County-2505 Davis Road Waldorf, MD 20603 In keeping with her wishes, there will be no viewing or visitation. There will be a Celebration of Life service and gathering for family and friends on Saturday February 25, 2023 from 1-4pm. It will be held at the Nanjemoy Volunteer Fire Department 4260 Port Tobacco Road, Nanjemoy, MD 20662.
