George Calvin Bowman

George Calvin Bowman was born October 10, 1937, in Pisgah, Maryland, to the Eva Savoy Bowman and the late Stanley J. Penny. He departed this life on October 31, 2020, at the age 83. George or Calvin, as he was known by family and friends, grew up in Marbury, Maryland. He was a loving son, brother, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He retired from the D. C. Fire Department on September 30, 1979, after working at Engine 7 for 20 years. After his retirement, he started his own business in partnership with his brother Sonny. Their business was B & P Contractors, where they installed swimming pools and septic systems, etc. Calvin was a hardworking man and seemed to enjoy it. More than anything, he enjoyed the company of his family and friends, beautiful warm weather days, and giving hay rides during social gatherings. He took pleasure in the small things in life and truly enjoyed gatherings at his beloved pond, which he constructed with the help of family and friends. He was loved by many and will be remembered for his kindness, his pleasant smile, his playful personality and willingness to help others. Those left to cherish his memory include 3 children, 7 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren, 5 siblings, extended family, and friends. He survived by his children, Kent Bowman, Cervon Benitez, and Carvell Bowman. He is also survived by his siblings, Marguerite Harvey, Violet Simmons, Elaine Baker, Catherine (Liz) Thompson, Paul (Bobby) Bowman and Francis (Sonny) Penny. In addition to Calvin’s parents, he was preceded in death by his siblings, James Bowman, William (Cabby) Bowman, Charles Bowman, Wilson (Ton) Bowman, Evelyn Howard, Annie Gray, Blondell Swann, and John Kenneth Bowman. A celebration of life for Calvin on Monday, November 9, 2020 at St. Mary Star of the Sea Catholic Church, 30 Mattingly Avenue, Indian Head, Maryland 20640 with visitation from 10AM until time of Mass at 11AM. Interment to follow in St. Charles Cemetery in Glymont, Maryland. Pallbearers are Francis (Sonny) Penny, Carvell Bowman, Meinardo Benitez, Sergio Benitez, Tommy Bowman and A J Root. Honorary Pallbearer is Paul (Bobby) Bowman.
