Donna Marie Newman

Donna Marie Newman, 74, of White Plains, Maryland, passed away on the evening of July 16th, 2024, at the Sagepoint Senior Living facility in La Plata, Maryland. Donna was born on April 5th, 1950 in Washington DC, to the late Mr. and Mrs. William "David" Hensley. Donna grew up in the Washington DC metro area, and graduated from Elizabeth Seton Catholic High School in Bladensburg, Maryland, in 1967. In 1970, Donna met her cherished husband Burnett "Burnie" during a family outing at a local bowling alley. Donna and Burnie married on July 22nd, 1972. The newlyweds settled in Landover, Maryland and went on to have three children, Laura Newman (Christy) of Saint Charles, Maryland, William "Bill" Newman (Leita) of La Plata, Maryland, and Susan Newman (Stephen) of Myrtle Beach, South Carolina. Donna and Burnie would later move their young family to Waldorf, Maryland where they happily resided for many years. Throughout her life, Donna held various cash handling and bank reconciliation positions. In 2011, Donna retired from her long-standing position as a Proof Operator at Maryland Bank and Trust. Donna enjoyed music, dancing, bowling, playing cards with friends, conversations with her grandchildren, and relaxing evenings watching Perry Mason or Andy Griffith reruns with her cat Abigail sitting in her lap. Donna was predeceased by her parents, Mr. and Mrs. David Hensley, her beloved husband Burnie, her dear brothers Charles "Buster" (Marie) and Keith, as well as many family members from Maryland, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Illinois of whom she held dear. She is survived by her loving children, Laura, Bill, and Susan, her dear daughters-in-law Christy and Leita, and her darling grandchildren Billy, Phoebe and Elliot. Donna also leaves behind her cherished sisters Davita (Tom), Danette (Steven), Diane, and Deborah (Bill), her many nieces and nephews, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, as well as aunts, uncles, cousins and friends residing in Maryland, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Illinois. Visitation will be held at Raymond Funeral Service, P.A., 5635 Washington Ave, La Plata, Maryland 20646, on July 29th, at 10am until time of service at 12pm. The internment will take place at Ft. Lincoln Cemetery, 3401 Bladensburg Rd., Brentwood, Maryland 20722 following the visitation. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in remembrance of Donna to an organization of your choice, or to the Maryland Department of Natural Resources, Wildlife and Heritage Service who rehabilitate sick and injured wildlife.
