David Cross

David Albert Cross of Brandywine, Maryland, died on Thursday, December 8, 2011 at George Washington Hospital in Washington, DC. He was 75 years old. Born on August 13, 1936 in North Keys, Maryland, he was the son of the late Alberta May Lusby Cross and the late Russell Wolfe Cross. Mr. Cross was a Self-Employed store owner/farmer for 50 plus years in Prince George’s County and a veteran of the United States Air Force and the Air National Guard Reserves, beginning in 1954 and was a member of the 113th Tactical Fighter Wing. He was a member of the Baden Volunteer Fire Department since 1955 and actively responded to many fire calls. In later years, he was presented with a Life Membership. He was a 62 year member of Immanuel United Methodist Church, serving as Treasurer since 1973, Trustee, Usher, member of the United Methodist Men on various committees. He was a member of the Prince George’s County Farm Bureau and the Greater Baden and Aquasco Civic Association. He attended Marlboro Elementary School and played trombone in the band where he acquired the nickname “Bones” and played on all sports teams. Captain of the basketball and baseball teams and was quite a pitcher. He was crowned “King” of Sasscer’s Sports Knight in his senior year. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Capt. Russell Cross, father-in-law John “Buddy” Cooke, and granddaughter Ashley Cross. He is survived by his wife of 49 years, Sandra Ann Cooke Cross; children David (Kathy) Cross, Jr., Michael (Jennifer) Cross, and Susan (Richard) Sedgwick; one sister, Alberta “Bertie” (Joseph) Decker; one sister-in-law, Lois Roberson; grandchildren, Kody, Kaylee, Kassidy, Lauren, and Michael Cross, Taylor and Ryan Sedgwick. Also survived by many nieces, nephews, and friends. Visitation on Tuesday, December 13, 2011 from 1-3PM and 5-8PM with Fire Department Service at 7PM at Raymond Funeral Chapel 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, MD 20646. Funeral Service on Wednesday, December 14, 2011 at 11AM at Immanuel United Methodist Church in Baden, MD with the Reverend Marianne Brown officiating. Interment to follow in the church cemetery. Pallbearers are Steve, Kody, and Michael Cross, Carl and Brian Decker, Brian Boteler, Pat Gardiner, Chris Cruisus, Joe Boswell, and Ryan Sedgwick.
