Charles Henry Brown

It is with great sadness that we mark the passing of Charles Henry Brown, 81 of Bryantown, MD, went home to be with his heavenly father on April 26, 2024 at 10:15 pm at his residence. Charles was born on January 5, 1943 in Cumberland, MD to the late Vella Marie (Calhoun) Brown and Robert Brown. Graduated from Fort Hill High School- Class of 1961 Charles was an Optician for 50 years and a Master Optician for the last 30 years of his career. He was a Fellow of the National Academy of Opticianry and also was in an article in Washington Consumer Checkbook (areas Best Opticians). He was a Charter Certified Optician and received many plaques for Excellence. He also learned to fly an Airplane with the Flight Instruction of Bob Jeter 1977. He was a Deacon at The Grace Church of Waldorf, where he was a faithful and dedicated member. He played guitar and sang tenor in the church choir for many years. He was also a member of the Brothers in Grace Quartet. In 1994 he along with his wife, and 10 others went on a mission trip to Argentina, where together the twelve of them built a church in twelve days. He was the past president of the Clinton Lions Club from 1984 to 1985. He loved golf and enjoyed traveling. Charlie will be remembered as a Gentleman and a kind and generous person; he never knew a stranger. He was dedicated to his community and to helping any person that he could without expecting payment or favor in return. He was a loving; husband, Father, Grandfather and Great Grandfather to Ellis. He was affectionately deemed as the original Charlie Brown by himself and his family. In addition to his parents, Charles is preceded in death by his granddaughter, Amanda Marie Ridgeway; brother, Howard Gragg and his wife Martha and sister; Virginia Stone. He is survived by his wife of nearly 47 years, Karen H. (Ferry) Brown, daughter, Lisa Marie (Brown) Ridgeway (John); sons; William Walter (Lisa), and Andrew Walter (Raquel); grandchildren; Brittany Wagner, (Cody), Hannah Ridgeway, and Amanda Walter; great-grandson, Ellis G. Wagner; and sister, Marybell Elder and her husband Lester Elder. A Memorial Service will be held at Grace Church in Waldorf on May 5th, 2024 at 2:00 pm. Reception Immediately following.
