Carrie Virginia Fair

Carrie Virginia Fair, Port Tobacco, MD Carrie Virginia Fair, 89, of Port Tobacco, MD (formerly of Accokeek, MD) passed on Saturday, August 23, 2014, at the Hospice House of Charles County, MD. She was born May 21, 1925, in Norfolk, VA, to the late Joseph Edward Elliott and Elenora Forrest Elliott. She was preceded in death by her husband, James R. Fair; her sister, Dorothy Pruitt; and her brother, Joseph Elliott. Carrie attended Mathews County Public Schools and graduated from Mathews High School in May 1942. She retired from the Prince George’s County Public School System after 25 years of service. Prior to PGCPS, she was employed by the Accokeek Post Office. She was a member of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Waldorf, MD. She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend to everyone. She believed in southern hospitality, and always wanted to be sure you had plenty to eat when you visited. She loved gardening, cooking, and shopping, but most of all being with her family, traveling to Myrtle Beach, and watching and playing with her grandchildren. She always wanted the best for her family and encouraged them to “study hard.” She was a special person who was loving, caring, kind, and most generous. Carrie is survived by her daughters, Sheron Kieffer and her husband, Jim; Bonnie (Yvonne) Henderson and her husband, Chris; granddaughters, Christine Walker and her husband, Chris; Karen Lindeen and her husband, Chris; Kim Cardwell and her husband, Andy; and grandson, Philip Davis and his wife, Elaine; and step-grandchildren, Sherry Basso and her husband, Johnny; and James Kieffer, Jr., and his wife, Tina; and their families. She is also survived by her beloved great-grandchildren, Anna, Aidan, Lila, Scarlet, Zachary, Seth, Sebastian, and Cecilia. She is survived by her sister, Theresa Platko; her brother, Edward Elliott and his wife, Carolyn; brother-in-law, Henry Pruitt; and sister-in-law, Patricia Elliott, along with many beloved nieces, nephews, and friends, especially Teya and Mary, who made her laugh and took loving care of her in her final days. A gathering of family and friends will be held at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church, Waldorf, MD, on Tuesday, September 2nd, at 9:00 am, with a memorial service to follow at 11:00 am. A private burial will be held at a later date.
