Carolyn Laraine Taylor-Payne

Mrs. Carolyn Laraine “Rainey” Taylor-Payne was born July 16, 1948 in Wheeling, West Virginia. She was the first-born child of the late Ola B. Nevels Woodson and William R. Woodson, Sr. She had two brothers and four sisters. She is preceded in death by her sister, Cheryl Lynn Woodson Hunter. Carolyn grew up in Canonsburg, Pennsylvania with her younger siblings. She was always very protective of her younger brothers and sisters. As a young girl she was very much a lady, learning to cook for her siblings and clean fish and wild game that her dad and brothers brought home. She also helped her mom comb and brush the hair of her little sisters. Her siblings always admired her and looked up to her as their role model and “Big Sister”. Carolyn graduated from Canon McMillan High School class of 1965 at age 16. Upon graduation, she moved to Ohio and worked for the Central Blood Bank of Cleveland, Ohio. There she met and married Nelson R. White to whom she would have one loving daughter, Kimberley Anne White Charter. Carolyn soon moved to New York and spent over 40 years of her life there. She lived in both Long Island and Queens, NY. Carolyn was a true New Yorker in class and style and throughout her life she was able to travel around the world. Carolyn worked for The Xerox Corporation for over 20 years as a trainer. Upon leaving Xerox, she worked for Doak Dermatologics, a division of Bradley Pharmaceuticals of New Jersey as a pharmaceutical representative. Carolyn was a successful business woman, winning consecutive Presidential Awards. On January 2, 2004 she married the love of her life, Mark Payne. She loved her “Markie” and the two of them were inseparable. In 2015, after retiring from corporate America, she moved from New York to Waldorf, Maryland to be closer to family. She quickly got involved in her church and neighborhood association where she became a member of the board. Carolyn touched many people in her lifetime with her gentle voice and loving personality. She was a beautiful person inside and out. She would always take time to listen and talk with you no matter how she was feeling. She had so much wisdom and experience and she would always wrap it in love to share exactly what you needed to hear. When Carolyn spoke, everyone listened. Carolyn loved the Lord and throughout the years she was active in her church serving as an Elder and Deacon at First Presbyterian Church of Newtown, NY. She walked by faith through it all. She trusted in Jesus and in Him, she drew her strength! Carolyn is survived by her devoted husband of 14 years, Mark Payne; her daughter, Kimberley Anne White Charter (Jeff); her grandson, Kristopher Liam Charter; her granddaughter, Jenna Morgan Charter of Waldorf, Maryland; two brothers, William R. Woodson, Sr. of Erie, Pennsylvania and Gary A. Woodson (Lorie) of Lithonia, Georgia; three sisters, Reverend Cynthia L. Woodson Smith (Willie) of Canonsburg, Pennsylvania, Minister Charla L. Woodson Tyler (Robert) of Cecil, Pennsylvania, and Carmen L. Woodson Hickerson (Carl) of Waldorf, Maryland; her mother-in-law, Anita Payne (Dennis) of Barbados, her sister-in-law, Marguerita Payne of Barbados; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, family and friends. Friends received on Wednesday, September 5, 2018 from 10AM until time of Funeral Service at 11:30AM at Raymond Funeral Service Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646.
