Blossom Bernice Durmazer

Blossom Bernice Durmazer was born to Jasper and Etta Miller on April 29, 1941 in St. Andrews, Jamaica. She grew up in Kingston and attended both the Mico Practicing School for teachers’ training and the Commercial College before migrating to the United States. Blossom had her first child, Paul, in 1959 with Audley Hylton. In 1961, Blossom met Earl Rose and they were married in 1962. They were blessed with three children: Sandra, Wayne, and Mario. Their marriage ended in 1977. In 1984, Blossom was married to Saban Durmazer and together they enjoyed life and spent time traveling throughout the United States, Canada, Europe, and Jamaica. Blossom loved to learn and pursued her education with passion. She graduated from Queens Community College with an Associate’s degree in Business Administration and went on to complete her Bachelor’s degree in Computer Programming from Hofstra University, Long Island. Blossom was a very prudent business woman. She worked for Bankers Trust and Chase Bank in New York and retired from the banking industry in 1990. She then pursued her real estate licenses and became an agent. Blossom had a passion for real estate, and a keen eye for investment potential. She purchased, renovated, and sold several homes as investment properties. In 1993, Blossom became a Financial Analyst with Primerica Financial Services. She was licensed for life insurance and mutual funds, and built a successful business within the organization. Blossom was very athletic as a teenager. She loved track and field, and was very good at the sport of fencing and table tennis. She had a competitive nature that motivated her to achieve her goals in life. Some of the other things that Blossom enjoyed were watching old movies and cooking, especially her favorites, salmon and lamb. Blossom became a born again Christian in 1974 and was a woman of deep faith and conviction who lived every day of her life for her Lord. She was a faithful member of Good Hope Missionary Church in the 70’s and joined Hempstead Assemblies of God when she moved to Long Island from 1981 until 2000. While living in Glen Cove, she attended Evangelical Christian Church, and most recently, the Faith Assemblies of God, in Lothian, MD. She enjoyed teaching at VBS each year and had a heart of compassion to serve and help those in need. She read her Bible every day and prayed that all her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren would have a personal encounter with the Lord. Her favorite service was the prayer meetings. She supported many Christian organizations with her donations and tithed to her church. Blossom loved to listen to Family Christian Radio and kept the radio on that station 24 hours a day. This summer she was blessed to travel with a group of believers to do missionary work with her oldest son, Paul, to the country of Bulgaria. This was one of her goals. She thoroughly enjoyed herself and was able to share exhortation in the team Bible Study time. Blossom knew the Word of God; she was a graduate of United Evangelical Bible Institute in Brooklyn, NY. Blossom was filled with love. She loved her husband Saban, (‘Shab’) as she lovingly called him. She loved her four children, her twelve grandchildren, and her four great grandchildren. She always sent birthday cards filled with “pleasant surprises” for the recipients. Her home was filled with pictures of her family everywhere. In December of 2016, Blossom and Saban relocated to Upper Marlboro, MD to live with her son, Wayne, and his family. Blossom may have been small in stature, however, she was a tower of strength for her family, friends, and all those who knew her. She lived by her convictions and knew just how to communicate what was on her mind. She was a true soldier in the Army of the Lord and she lived an inspirational life. The Lord called Blossom home on Tuesday, October 31, 2017, where she has received her eternal reward. Blossom leaves to cherish her memories: husband, Saban, daughter Sandra (Abdel), sons, Paul (Donna), Wayne (Sarah), and Mario. Twelve grandchildren: Bethany (Omar), Christina, Dana (Lindsay), Yassmina (Dominic), Ramona, Genieva, Wayne, Yousef, Leandra, Rachid, Joshua, and Jamel. Four great grandchildren: Amaya, Jasmine, Alexis, and Arabella. Her siblings, Pat Jones, Yvonne Reid, Madge Collins, and sister-in-law, Rose Miller, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. She was predeceased by her parents, Jasper and Etta, brothers, Jasper (Teddy), Lloyd, and sister, Enid. Friends received on Friday, November10, 2017 from 2PM until time of Funeral Service at 3PM at New Life Wesleyan Church, 9690 Shepherd's Creek Place, La Plata, MD 20646.
