Merry Jon Kalin

Died Tuesday, October 14 at George Washington University Hospital. Merry Jon Kelly Kalin (nicknamed Jonnie) was born December 8, 1937 in Little Rock, Arkansas to her mother, Delma Lorraine (Reid) Kelly and father, William P. Kelly. She was raised by her mother and stepfather, Jack L. Barnes in the Washington, D.C. area after relocating from Nashville, Tennessee. She attended Suitland High School. In September 1955, she married Herb Kalin. The following August their first child was born, followed by three additional children in the years thereafter. She and Herb were divorced in the early 1980’s but remained good friends until his death in 2006. Jonnie worked several years as a bookkeeper and then a real estate agent. Eventually she found her true calling working many years for Eastern Airlines and American Express, as a travel agent, from which she retired in 1999. She was briefly married in the mid 1980’s to Ali Aldulaimi and later divorced. Her passions in life included travel, dancing, her friends and family, and her beloved Washington Redskins. She is predeceased by her parents as well as her former husbands. She is survived by her children: Suzan Kalin Kates and husband Levin of Rock Point, Md., Kelly Kalin Webb and husband Ralph of Waldorf, Md., Buddy Ladd Kalin and wife Denise of Little River, S.C., and Jonathan Ray Kalin of Calabash, N.C., 10 grandchildren: Kris Sheckels, Kalin Hartman, Ralph Webb, Jr., Jordan Hoffman, Tiffany Kalin Maston, Cory Kalin, Nicholas Webb, Jillian Kalin, Matthew Webb, Michael Kates, and 12 great grandchildren: Sean Sheckels, Kristopher Sheckels, Kasey Sheckels, Aaron Sheckels, Damien Friedman, Emily Webb, Danika Friedman, Hallie Sheckels, Hailey and Riley Webb, Chase Maston, and Colton Maston. Friends were received on Sunday, October 19, 2014 from 5-8PM and where Funeral Service was held on Monday, October 20, 2014 at 10AM at the Raymond Funeral Service Chapel in La Plata, MD. Pallbearers were Ralph Webb, Jr., Jordan Hoffman, Cory Kalin, Nicolas Webb, Matthew Webb, Michael Kates, and Ralphael Maston. A celebration of life reception was held at Daniel O’Connell’s Irish Pub in Alexandria, VA. Interment was private.
