Melinda "Linda" Marie Canady

Melinda “Linda” Marie Canady, age 65 formerly of Fayetteville, North Carolina, peacefully passed away Friday, January 1, 2021. She was born January 14, 1955 in Cheverly, Maryland. Linda was a graduate of Suitland High School in June 1976. Linda was a beloved wife, mother, daughter, sister, grandmother, and friend to many. Linda worked as a retail manager most of her life, starting at SS Kresge’s and Kmart for over 35 plus years. Linda met the love of her life, Albert Canady, Jr. – they were married on January 1, 1984. They were married for 35 years and together 46 years. They had two sons, Kenneth Canady and Jermaine Canady and a daughter, Ashley Canady. Linda was also blessed with four granddaughters, Kaela, Diamond, Kaycee, and Sir’ryah and one grandson, Sir, who she loved and adored all very much. Linda loved spending time with her mother, Betty, whom she just adored and her three sisters, Debbie, Cheryl (brother-in-law, Michael), and Diane, at family gatherings, cookouts, going out to eat, or just simply sitting around chatting about old times and good times. One of Linda’s all-time favorites was going to the casinos with her mother and casino partner, Pam. Didn’t matter if we had a lot of money, the rest will be figured out later (“casino, here we come” was always Linda’s motto). Linda was a dog mom to many dogs whom she just loved and cared for dearly. Linda was preceded in death by her father, James R. Schaefer, her husband, Albert Canady, Jr., and her son, Jermaine M. Canady. Linda is survived by her loving mother whom she just adored, Betty Schaefer (Wachter), three sisters, Debbie, Cheryl (brother-in-law, Michael), and Diane; son, Kenneth Canady; daughter, Ashley Canady; grandchildren, Kaela, Diamond, Kaycee, Sir’ryah, and Sir; daughter-in-law, Trina; sister-in-law, Beverly (Diane) Clark whom Linda was a very close to; sister-in-law, Mildred Canady Prater (Charlie); sister-in-law, Marcia Warren (Mclucas); sister-in-law, Marlene Corbett; brother-in-law, Granison Warren (Mann); casino partner and close friend, Pam Posey; and very close long-time friends, Mary and Ben Williams. She is also survived by a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and many close friends and coworkers. Linda will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved her. Rest in peace. Until we meet again on the other side. Visitation on Thursday, January 21, 2021 from 10:30AM until time of Funeral Service at 12PM at Raymond Funeral Service Chapel, 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646. Interment to follow at Maryland Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, Maryland 20623.
