Lois Maxine Washburn

Lois Maxine Washburn, 81, of LaPlata, Maryland, passed away on Thursday, January 9, 2025 at the University of Maryland Charles Regional Medical Center in La Plata. Born on February 7,1943 in Basin, West Virginia, she was the daughter and one of ten children of the late Jessie Willard Poe and Callie Leora Poe. Maxine worked at Wonder Cleaners for many years and then worked at the Super 8 Motel in Waldorf as the Head Housekeeper until her 81st birthday. Maxine also enjoyed teaching Sunday School at both White Hall and Accokeek Baptist Church. She enjoyed putting on plays, special dinners, and even a fashion show with the kids. She loved singing in the choir and playing her guitar and just being with her family and friends. In addition to her parents, Maxine was preceded in death by her husband Earl William Washburn; grandson Joshua Gregor, brothers, Jessie Willard Poe, Wayne Paul Poe, Joseph Ora Jackson Poe, James Harrison Poe, and sister Wilma Graham. Maxine is survived by her daughter Tammy Gregor; son Earl W. Washburn Jr.; grandchildren Jeremy Gregor, Alan Gregor, and Mandy Gregor; nine great grandchildren; one great-great grandchild. She is also survived by sisters Audrey Gay Sutphin, Mary Haroldson (Jim), Grace Hester, and Audrey Eloise Nowlin. Maxine was a loyal and loving wife, mother, grandmother, friend and teacher to all she encountered. She practiced kindness, love and forgiveness no matter the circumstances. She deserves to be honored and revered by those she came in contact with and is already deeply missed by those who knew and loved her. She loved the Lord, her family and friends and Reeses peanut butter cups. She loved to host get togethers and was famous for her chicken n' dumplings. A visitation will be held on Monday, February 3, 2025 from 11AM until time of service at 1PM at Raymond Funeral Service, P.A., 5635 Washington Avenue, La Plata, Maryland 20646 with the Reverend Marvin Harris officiating. Interment to follow services at Cheltenham Veterans Cemetery, 11301 Crain Highway, Cheltenham, Maryland 20623. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Maxine’s name to Dementia Society of America and the American Heart Association.
