Dorothy Eloise Healy

Dorothy Eloise Healy was born on September 16, 1948. She passed away peacefully with her family by her side on February 24, 2016. Eloise was one of seven children born to Joseph Richard and Mary Ellen Carter, sisters Joan, Karen, and Doris and brothers Daniel, Donald and Robert. As a child, Eloise grew up in West Line, Missouri in a house she often referred to as the “little house on the prairie.” She attended and graduated from Midway High School - a quaint little schoolhouse which held eight grades in one classroom. After graduating high school, Eloise married and on October 14, 1969 gave birth to her son Steven Ketchum. Shortly after Steven was born they moved from Missouri to Southern Maryland where she fell in love with the Chesapeake Bay and blue crabs. Eloise worked for C& P Telephone Company for 37 years as a Commercial Account Manager. She loved interacting with various businesses and helping them set up their commercial lines. She was extremely successful in her time with C&P and was known for bringing laughter and excitement to her office. She was always the morale booster for her family, friends and coworkers…even if it meant showing up to work dressed like a clown. Eloise also spent many years as a wedding planner where she could utilize her ability to make a masterpiece out of anything and help her brides plan the best day of their lives. Dorothy Eloise Healy joined the Potomac Heights Volunteer Fire Department on January 24, 1988 and is a Life Member of the Auxiliary. As a member Eloise became certified as an EMT and actively participated in many committees. The fire service and its members quickly became a part of Eloise’s family and way of life. She met countless friends, formed unbreakable bonds, and met the love of her life in the process, Francis “Russ” Healy. On September 30th 1995, Eloise and Russ were married and they continued their lives in the fire service together. Beginning in 1989, Eloise progressed up the chairs of the Southern Maryland Volunteer Firemen’s Association Ladies Auxiliary were she successfully held all the offices, all the while embarking on the 13 year journey with the Ladies Auxiliary of the Maryland State Firemen’s Association and became their President in 1994. Eloise has been inducted in the Association’s Hall of Fame. Along with the fire service Eloise particularly loved planning parties, socializing, crafts, Christmas, and most importantly her beautiful grandchildren. Any time of the year you could visit her home and most likely she would have a Christmas tree somewhere, one or more of her grandchildren running around, and a table full of ribbon and paint. Eloise lived her life to the fullest, surrounding herself with love and laughter and was the truest model of an astonishing woman. Her delightful stories, bright blue eyes, and beautiful smile will be deeply missed but the legacy she leaves behind will live on forever because she loved so well.
